Summer update

Summer is always a busy season at Greenheart, and this year is no exception. With Sonia joining the design team, new faces on site, and plenty of projects underway, it feels like things are moving at full speed. Here’s a little round-up of what we’ve been up to…

Designed in-house

Our design and project management teams have a wonderfully varied mix of projects on the go.

Work is progressing at the Cowbyre enerphit barn conversion, where the staircase, fit-out, and finishes are taking shape. We’ve also returned to a 1930s re-model in Abbotts Leigh, this time with a simpler brief, but just as much to get stuck into!

We’re working on Extensions/retrofits in Long Ashton, Bishopston, Sneyd Park and Bath, alongside new builds in Bath, Bristol, and Gloucestershire. Each brings its own challenges and opportunities, which keeps things interesting for the whole team.

On the Passivhaus side:

  • St Andrews (Walsingham): Planning is submitted, consultations have been positive, and all the supporting ecological and biodiversity work is complete. Now we wait for the decision.
  • Winsley Road: With planning granted, we’re moving into research and technical design for a small but ambitious home, targeting Passivhaus certification while avoiding concrete, plastics, and imported PV panels.
  • In Sutton Benger, groundworks are well underway, scaffolding is going up, and framing is just around the corner.

And we’re having exciting conversations too, about a co-housing project together with a previous client and Barefoot Architects, prefab ecohomes with Wonderhaus, and nail-laminated timber (NLT) construction with Wood Block. All possibilities that align beautifully with our ethos.

Build only (Designed by others)

On site, the team has been busy bringing projects to life.

  • At Meadowside (Sherston), the garage and shed are complete, rounding off the wider project.
  • The orangery at Dowry Square is finished too. It was lovely to have some amazing feedback from the customer

Alongside those, we’ve got new build projects in Bath, Stoke Gifford, Gloucestershire and more, currently moving through design, costing and Passivhaus modelling.

Around the edges

There’s plenty happening beyond design and build too:

  • We’re preparing to celebrate 25 years of Greenheart, with an interactive timeline in the works (and maybe some commemorative coffee cups).
  • We’ve taken on a shared workshop with one of our carpenters, John, opening up opportunities for more bespoke fitted furniture.
  • Team news: Sophie and Sonia have settled in brilliantly; Jonathan and Theo have joined us on site; and it’s been great to welcome Tristan and Paul back. Max has started training as a psychotherapist. Hopefully a very long course!
  • Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be a busy one; we may need to grow the team further with carpenters, site managers, and perhaps even another architect.
  • Meanwhile, filming with Rise Pictures is underway, as we develop a new video strategy to strengthen our website and marketing.

And we’ve even taken on a small but special job, installing windows for Bill, who founded Greenheart in 2000 and lives just up the hill from our office.

Looking Forward

From remodels and retrofits to Passivhaus design and new build projects, it feels like there’s great momentum across the practice. We’re proud of how much is happening and excited about what lies ahead.

Here’s to the rest of the year, and all the good things still to come. 🌱
